Mr. Friedman’s Cholent
2 lbs. top rib, cut into pieces
1 cup lima beans
1 cup brown beans
½ cup barley
2 potatos, cut into cubes
1 large onion, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
3 T ketchup
Soak beans in cold water the night before. Put all ingredients in crock-pot
and cover with water. Cook on low. It will be ready for lunch
next day. (Cholent should start cooking either first thing Friday morning,
so that it will be ready to eat when Shabbos starts, or else just before
Shabbos begins, so that it is completely not ready to eat in the evening.)
Try one or more of the following variations: substitute a sweet
potato for a white potato; use steak sauce instead of ketchup; use a bottle
of beer instead of some of the water; add some lentils; add some more
onion, or perhaps less beans....
