Poppy Seed Cookies
¼ cup poppy seeds
¼ cup hot milk
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
7 T sugar
¼ tsp cinnamon
6 T soft butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
Soak poppy seeds in milk for 2 hours. Sift flour and baking powder. Add
sugar, cinnamon and butter. Beat egg-reserve 1 T. Add egg, vanilla
and seeds to flour mixture. Mix with hands to make a smooth dough. Chill
in freezer for 1 hour. Roll out on a floured board to a rectangle ¼”
thick. Cut out rounds of dough. Place them ¾” apart on ungreased
cookie sheet. Brush with reserved egg. Bake at 350º for 15
minutes or till undersides are golden.
